Last weekend may just be the last time you hear any loud noise being made for NFL teams to sign Colin Kaepernick. The former NFL player was granted a work-out day in Atlanta to showcase his readiness for the NFL-but made the day a political event. The NFL along with Jay Z who was influential in Kaepernick getting scouted by NFL teams were angered by Kapernick’s antics. First, the arranged work-out was for Saturday, but Kaepernick tried to have it for another day.
The NFL refused to budge on the first ever work-out date provided to one single player. Kaepernick agreed on the date, and location of the work. Now, come the day of the work-out at an Atlanta Falcons facility- Kaepernick hours leading up to his work-out allegedly decided to move the event to an Atlanta high school 59 miles away.
The move upset teams organized to be at the Kaepernick’s work-out along with others. Already leading up to the work-out was a waiver the NFL provided to Kaepernick- which he reportedly refused to sign. The waiver reportedly protected the NFL from any actions Kaepernick may have in mind of suing for any reasons. Kaepernick did himself no good on his work-out day-which gave him an opportunity back in the NFL. The former quarter-back came out before the media essentially bashing the NFL accusing them of “running from the truth.”
Many see Kaepernick’s actions as a slap in the face to the NFL after they called him with the opportunity that could land him a contract with a team. Many believe Kapernick dug his own grave with his media antics, and moving the work-out session without permission and on short-notice. Here is a snipped of what ESPN’s Steven A. Smith believe NFL teams could be saying to themselves of Kaepernick’s actions:
“Look at this guy, he wants a job but he is coming at us. Why should we want to hire him.”
Kaepernick has not played in the NFL for three years since opting out of his contact with the San Francisco 49ers. Kaepernick is better known for kneeling during the national anthem for social injustice than his NFL game. Kaepernick’s kneeling during the national anthem was done to bring attention to unarmed African Americans being gunned down by police. Kaepernick’s social inequality fight per kneeling came with mixed views.
Many felt he should take his protest to the street and not the working environment. Others felt Kaepernick was being disrespectful to the American flag by kneeling during the national anthem. Then there are those who believe Kaepernick’s are a distraction for his NFL team.
