ESPN Controversy Over Leaked Audio Displaying Jealously, Under-Cutting And Feuding Sports Reporters Makes It Rounds

 Maria Taylor and Rachel Nichols

ESPN reporter Rachel Nichols known for her fair share of covering controversial subjects in sports finds herself broiled in one of her own. Nichols forgot to hit the kill power button on her camera, and was caught by her own camera last year seemingly attempting to sabotage her colleague Maria Taylor from the spotlight of success. The damage was done as fast Nichols opened her heart of  jealously in a hotel room she was in on an NBA assignment.

ESPN reportedly has a system in place where recordings can be immediately sent back to their servers, and can be accessed by anyone. Just was the unfortunate case for Nichols whose true heart was put on display in a recording as she appear to diminish Taylor’s earned abilities within her job by using the diversity case in the working environment as Taylor’s essential promotion.

The ESPN controversy has now gone viral, and at least one person is said to have made a copy of the recording. Nichols in explaining her comments caught on video said to the Times that she was just venting to a friend about ESPN’S process, and that her venting was not about Taylor. Call us crazy, but it sure sounds to us that Nichols was saying that Taylor was not worthy of the gig she was given over her. Here is what she got caught saying:

“I wish Maria Taylor all the success in the world — she covers football, she covers basketball. If you need to give her more things to do because you are feeling pressure about your crappy longtime record on diversity — which, by the way, I know personally from the female side of it — like, go for it. Just find it somewhere else. You are not going to find it from me or taking my thing away.”

Noticed how Nichols said her thing should not be taken away. It seems as though she is saying it is within her contract that she gets dibs on all high profile gigs before Taylor- and that ESPN got in their feelings and gave her first shot. Nichols wanted the hosting job of the NBA Finals last year, but was given sideline duties of the playoffs.

On and off Nichols shared the duties of hosting with Taylor, but it looks like Nichols may have always had issue with an on and off sharing of those duties. As the ESPN controversy out in the media as being between the two sports reporter- Nichols reportedly said she called and text Taylor but received no reply. Taylor’s contract with ESPN is set to expire in weeks, and no contract has been offered to her as of yet.

Looks like the network have chosen their lady of sports for their network. So far, only one person has been punished for their actions and that was not Nichols who essentially bad mouthed her colleague. A digital video producer for ESPN who revealed she shared a video of the recording with Taylor was suspended for two weeks. That same video producer has since left ESPN.

Do you believe Rachel Nichols deserve some kind of punishment for her actions?
